Berlin, Germany

We arrived in Warnemunde, Germany today. We planned an all day excursion in Berlin so we had to take a 2 -1/2 hour train ride to get to Berlin. Our excursion was called East meets West, meaning East and West Berlin with the whole Berlin Wall thing and lots of history. While on the train, we saw some real pretty countryside. Lots of fields and forests. We saw tons of Poppy flowers and deer stands in the farm fields. They get lots of deer, rabbit and other animals to hunt for. I even saw a deer. As we got into the more city parts, we saw a ton of graffiti. It was everywhere. Some were nice pictures but a lot was just words and scribbles.

Examples of some graffiti

A funny sign that tells us to walk. He has a hat on.

We got a lot of history and facts about the Berlin Wall and how each side coped and dealt with it. It was so sad. I just couldn't imagine how it really was. Thank heavens for our freedom in the US.

Here's some of the Berlin Wall that was left over.

Here's another part of the wall where they let artists create their own art on "the wall". They periodically paint over it and let others make their art.

more "wall"

Me and mom next to the wall. We even left our mark on "the wall". We wrote our names on it, but the picture didn't turn out that well.

This was one of the buried tunnels the soldiers had from the war.

Here is Checkpoint Charlie.

A building that was hit by bombs in the war and is still standing.

We ate an authentic German meal. It was the best!!! We had an interesting salad at first. It was a bowl with four different salads on it. It had pickled green beans, pickled white cabbage, sweet grated carrots, and marinated cucumbers. Hated the green beans, it reminded me of the 3 bean salad. Blech!! I really only liked the carrots and cucumbers. Then we had our main meal. YUM!!!!! We had these meatball sized smashed hamburgers. I don't know what they were called. We also had link sausage size bratwaursts with finely shredded saurkrat and some sliced smoked pork. We also had small round potatoes, mashed potatoes, cauliflower and broccoli. It was so tasty. The best meal we've had so far on this trip, even on the ship. Then, for dessert....apple streusel with a creamy sauce. I forgot to take a picture of the main meal, but got one of the dessert.
